Film - Penetration Resistance

Penetration resistance is an important characteristic for thin flexible material used to package sharp-edged products. Material response to penetration will vary with numerous factors such as film thickness, elastic modulus, rate of penetration, temperature, shape and type of probe.

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated.

Industry standards for determining the penetration resistance of film are:
- ASTM F-1306
