Chatillon® Grips & Fixtures
Probes
Probes are a commonly used to ensure a uniform compressional load on a sample. We offer three types of probes for force measurement.
Ball Probes
FG/BA Series Ball probes are ideal for applying a uniform compressive force to a sample. Ball probes are invaluable for performing a wide variety of texture analysis tests, or tests where a uniform load needs to be applied to a sample in order to determine compressive strength. They are ideal for testing the hardness, firmness or ripeness of fruits and vegetables and confectionary products. Ball probes are available in both imperial and metric diameters. These probes have an M6 male thread.
Conical Probes
FG/CO Series Cone probes may be specified by the angle of the probe required for penetration testing. Cone probes are often used for testing samples for their rupture characteristics such as pharmaceuticals, packaging, cosmetics, food products, sealants, mastics, creams and pastes. Cone probes are also used to measure the spreadability of dairy products such as butter, margarine and spreadables. These probes have an M6 male thread.
Cylinder Probes
FG/CY Series Cylinder probes have been traditionally used as a general purpose compression device used for applying a deformation load to a sample such as gelatin or pastes. They are commonly used to determine the get strength and elasticity of a sample. Cylinder probes are also useful for applying a shearing force to a sample to determine the breaking strength. The "Bloom Value" is a recognized standard for quoting the strength of a gel structure, such as gelatin. Cylinder probes are available with imperial or metric diameter cylinders. These probes have an M6 male thread.
We Can Help!
Selecting the correct grip can be difficult. In fact, improper grips or fixtures are the second leading reason (loadcells are the main reason) why tests fail and results aren't what you expected.
Send us some samples. We'll evaluate and recommend the proper grip or fixture for your application. Just contact your nearest Technical Support Center.
